My Reflection on Schindler's List

The film was directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally. The main characters were the German businessman--Schindler, the Schutzstaffer officer Amon Goth, and Schindler's accountant Itzhak Stern. The film was both a box office success and recipient of seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Score. In 2007, the American Film Institute ranked the film eighth on its list of the 100 best American films of all time.
The movie is mainly about how Schindler's factory kept the Jews employed, or alive during the World War Ⅱ while the Nazis invaded the Jewish culture in
Germany.Schindler started some new factories of making pots, and the workers that he had hired were all Jews. At the beginning, he opened his factory was just for his own profit. But then, the Germen started to take the Jews into concentration camp, which turned out to be a 'death camp',and the only way to keep those Jews alive was to keep them employed in 'Schindler's factory'.In addition, with loads of encouragement from his account, which was a incredibly smart person who helped Schindler to held his factory, and was also trying to save as many of Jews as he could by persuading Schindler to hire them to work in his factory. And although Schindler wasn't really agree with him at the first, however, the kindness inside of him had gradually come out.Eventually,at the end the war, he had saved the lives of more than a thousand Polish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories or availing himself of bribing those Nazis.
I think this movie is quite meaningful because it sends the message of the reality of how people have changed their behaviors in such extremed situations. For example, because of the strong prejudice between Germen and the Jews, there was a little German girl yelling 'good-bye Jews' when the Jews were expeled from their houses. And for some of the Jews, they've given up the thought of fighting for themselves. And instead of taking this risk, they just followed the orders however depressed they were. There are far too many places where hate, intolerance, and genocide still exist. Thus Schindler's List is no less a "Jewish story" or a "German story" than it is a human story. And its subject applies to every nation. Schindler's List is simply about racial hatred which is the state of mind that attacks not what makes us people but what makes us different from each other. It is my hope that Schindler's List will awaken and sustain an awareness of such evil and inspire this generation and future generations to seek an end to racial hatred.Through the story of Oskar Schindler, a war profiteer and member of the Nazi party who saved over 1100 Jews during World War II, Schindler's List explores the human capacity for monumental evil as well as for extraordinary courage, caring, and compassion.

the motives of going abroad

Nowadays, with the improvement of our living standards, more and more people are going abroad. However, different people have different incentives to go abroad. As far as I am
concerned,the reasons are as follows.
To begin with,It's well known that going abroad has become a fashion,so some people choose to go abroad just to go with the fashion,in other words, for their part, going abroad is very cool and make it possible for them to taste a new way of life.Aslo, there are many famous universities in foreign countries, therefore many students choose to study abroad to further their education. As a result, they can not only acquire additional language skills, but they can also contact with different people from all over the world and broaden their horizons. In addition, some people go to abroad for traveling so that they can gain a better understanding and appreciation of different cultures and customs of other countries by themselves and gain new perspectives.Last but not least, some people go abroad in order to keep themselves away from disasters ,such as war or some natural disasters like drought or flood.
On the whole ,with the economic development and the effect of globalization,
there will be huge interest among people ,especially among young people, to work ,study ,and travel abroad .

My view on globalization

Nowadays.globalization has become the main trend of the world development, which also become one of the most hot topics among people, and it's natural for people to have different opinions.
Some people are in favor of globalization. On one hand ,they think ,with the help of globalization,it promotes the integration of the world ,especially in the economical field---the
emergence of worldwide production markets and broader access to a range of foreign products for consumers and companies.Besides,it offers more job opportunities for people ,which can not only improve the employment ,but can also contribute to social stability. On the other hand, for their part,it's well known that there exists many world problems ,such as global warming, terrorism, and the spread of invisive species, depends on the global cooperation and endeavorment.Globalization is a very ideal media to offer such a stage for different countries to deal with problems together. As a result ,globalization makes for a better plan for human development.Last but not least, they argue that at present, the United States has enjoyed a position of power among the world powers; in part because of its strong and wealthy economy. With the influence of Globalization,it is likely that the world power structure will change a lot,
meanwhile,China ,as well as the European Union, Russian Federation and India have been experiencing some tremendous growth within the past decades, they are much
given to be among the other already-established world powers that may have the ability to influence future world politics, thus making for the establishment of a harmonious world.
However, others think otherwise. They maintain that its impact on cultures ,in this case the Arabic culture, will lead to the disintegration of identity and the spirit of the culture.Besides,in a certain period of time, globalization have more negative effects on the world econnmy. For example, the serious financial crisis taking place in 2008 ,it is the globalization that to great extents, triggered the expansion of credit crisis.
On the whole ,as the saying goes ,every coin has two sides, not the exclusion of the globalization. As far as I am concerned ,the advantages of the globalization outweigh its disadvantages in that it contributes to the further communication among countries and calls for a peaceful and harmonious earth .

My view on smoking

Nowadays, cigarette smoking has become a widespread habit all over the world. It was reported that smokers make up one quarter of the world population. In China,33.9% above the age of 15 are smokers.
Although an increasing number of people have realized that smoking can do great harm to people's health, some people still enjoy smoking. They argue that it is a kind of fashion and can refresh themselves. In fact, needless to say, the disadvantages of smoking outweigh the advantages. As we all know, the mixture of nicotine and carbon monoxide in each cigarette you smoke temporarily increase your heart rate and blood pressure, thus straining your heart and blood vessels.Worse still,if you keep smoking for a long time, your airways swell up and let less air into your lungs, and you are much given to be exposed to emphysema which is an illness that slowly rots your lungs. Besides, according to some scientific statistics, men who smoke are more likely to die from lung cancer than non-smokers.Heart diseases and strokes are also more common among smokers than non-smokers.Last but not least, smoking is not only harmful to smokers themselves, but also a threat to public health, especially to women and children.
Based on the analysis, the conclusion can be arrived at that we must try our best to get rid of smoking especially in public in that not only can the smokers themselves become healthier and stronger, but people around them can be more unlikely to be the victims of second-hand smokers

Refugees and IDPS

A refugee is a person who flees to a foreign country or power to escape danger or persecusion. However, unlike refugees ,internally displaced persons(IDPS)are persons or groups of persons who have been forced to or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence but have not crossed an internationally recongized state border. On the other hand, there is no international humanitarian institution which has the overrall responsibility of protecting and assisting the refugees as well as the internally displaced.
The problem of protecting and assisting refugees and the internally displaced is not a new issue. In terms of legal protection, using the 1951Geneva Refugee Convention as its major tool, UNHCR's core mandate is to ensure the international protection of 31.7 million uprooted people worldwide. It promotes the basic human rights of refugees and that they will not be returned involuntarily to a country where they face persecution. It helps them to repatriate to their homeland when conditions permit, integrate into states of asylum or resettle in third countries. UNHCR promotes international refugee agreements, helps states establish asylum structures and acts as an international watchdog over refugee issues.Through an extensive body of international law and treaties and by working with governments and other organizations on subjects ranging from promoting asylum systems to refugee advocacy, UNHCR promotes the legal protection of refugees and durable solutions. As for the global protection, providing fleeing
civilians with emergency help is often the first step towards their long term protection and rehabilitation. To meet these and other operational needs, UNHCR has developed a global network of suppliers, specialist agencies and partners. Projects can range from dispatching emergency teams to the scene of a crisis, providing emergency food, shelter, water and medical supplies, and arranging major airlifts for a large exodus of refugees or a flotilla of small boats for smaller numbers of fleeing civilians. Among a host of other programmes, there are projects to help protect the environment, build schools and raise awareness of such problems as HIV/AIDS.
